The beginning of a new year is such a gift; every day we wake up is a gift. I think there is so much beauty in the human experience. We have the capacity to completely change our lives in a positive way if we put in the work. I believe it all starts with a fresh mindset and reflecting on behaviors and choices that have held us back from being the best versions of ourselves. I don’t like to overwhelm myself with a huge list of resolutions because I’m only human and need to start with baby steps.
The first step I’m taking starts with a morning ritual of gratitude. I am a firm believer that prayer and meditation set the tone for our day. That time of meditation looks different for everyone. For me, it’s waking up to natural sunlight and reading a passage from either my Bible app or the Laudate app. This ritual might not stick forever but it is one that is manageable in my busy life right now. The second step I’m taking in my New Year’s intentions is fueling my mind and body through different forms of daily exercise. I feel refreshed and accomplished when I get at least ten minutes of exercise. I used to think working out was only useful to look a certain way but now my motivation has shifted to taking care of my mental health, which in the past, has kept me consistent. The third step I’m taking is cutting toxicity out of my life completely. I tend to soak in the energy that is around me and if I have the choice to cut toxic energy out of my life, I am going to do it. Life is too short to surround yourself with people who tear you down and don’t desire the best for you.
2020 ENERGY is my new brand logo and I’m sticking with it. Some other toxic habits I am striving to quit are complaining, negative self-talk, comparison, and projecting my internal struggles onto others. I want to be the friend that you leave a conversation feeling happier and uplifted. If I can’t love myself in that way, I can’t pour that love out onto others. So, my biggest GOAL for this year is to be more intentional in the way I treat myself, my husband, my friends, and my family. We have the power to change for the better and I thank God for His grace to do that.
My prayer for this year is to have these three things: 1. The merciful eyes of our Lord, which see the best in people 2. A tender heart that forgives the worst 3. A faithful soul that never loses hope in God.
